Each pick, and why

App builder

Lovable

Why: Easiest for polished web apps per builder feedback; we tried it and it built our test app on the free plan.

Alternatives: Bolt.new, Replit

Backend / database + auth

Supabase

Why: Lovable connects to Supabase; or use Lovable's built-in backend, which runs on Supabase.

+ Postgres database plus auth, storage and a free tier
− See community sources (Supabase vs Clerk) for auth trade-offs

Payments

Stripe

Why: No monthly fee; the default payments API.

Alternatives: Lemon Squeezy

Email

Resend

Why: Free 3,000 emails/month.

+ Free 3,000 emails/mo; React Email support

FAQ

What is the best stack if I can't code?

A builder like Lovable or Bolt.new for the app, Supabase for the backend, Stripe for payments, Resend for email and PostHog for analytics. All have a free plan or tier per their pricing pages.

Lovable or Bolt.new?

We tried both on the same prompt and both built a working app on the free plan. Lovable Pro is $25/mo; Bolt.new Pro is $18/mo billed annually. See our same-prompt test.

Do I need to set up Supabase myself?

Not with Lovable: its built-in backend (Lovable Cloud) is on by default. Connect your own Supabase project if you want your own account and billing.

Stripe or Lemon Squeezy?

Lemon Squeezy (5% + 50¢) acts as merchant of record and handles sales tax and VAT for you, which is less to manage. Stripe is cheaper per sale (2.9% + 30¢).

How we label tools: "Tried it" means we tested it; "Community-verified" means builder feedback we cite backs it; "Not yet reviewed" means neither yet. Strengths and weaknesses come from cited community sources or official pages, not our own tests.
