Verdict: We haven't reviewed Factory Droid yet, and we don't have enough cited builder feedback to say who should choose it. What we can confirm from Factory's official pages: Droid is a coding agent that works with many models (GPT, Claude, Gemini and open-weight models) and runs as a desktop app, a terminal interface and an SDK. Individual plans start at $20/mo with no free plan listed. Droid 1.0 shipped on Oct 29, 2026, so treat this release as new.

How Droid usage limits work

Individual plans (Pro, Plus, Max) are governed by three rolling limits: a 5-hour, a 7-day and a 30-day window, each running on its own. Your plan's Standard Usage is used first. After it runs out you can keep going on Droid Core, a free pool of open-weight models with separate limits, or turn on Extra Usage: prepaid credits with a $10 minimum and no expiry. You can check where you stand in Settings > Usage or with /limits in Droid. [2]

Bring-your-own-key (BYOK) use is free up to an allowance on every individual plan; past that it is charged according to your plan. Missions use the same limits, require Extra Usage to be turned on, and pause if they hit a limit. [2]

What changed in Droid 1.0

Factory announced Droid 1.0 on Oct 29, 2026 (CLI and desktop v1.0.0 the same day). [3] [4] The headline change is programmatic tool calling, now on by default: the model writes a small JavaScript program that runs in a sandbox and can make hundreds of tool calls in one model request, so raw tool output stays out of the context. Factory says this Script mode cuts Droid's cost by 15% on Claude Opus 5.5, and that the first request of a session shrank 37%, from 20,887 to 13,055 input tokens. [3]

Factory also published Terminal-Bench 4 results in which Droid, using Claude Opus 5.5, scored 3.0 to 7.6 points higher than Cursor, OpenCode, Devin and Claude Code, at up to 24% lower cost. These are Factory's own numbers, not an independent test. [3]

Factory Droid FAQ

Is Factory Droid free?

No free plan is listed on Factory's pricing page. The cheapest plan is Pro at $20/mo. Factory's docs describe Droid Core, a free open-weight model pool you can keep using with separate limits after your plan's Standard Usage runs out, but you still need a paid plan.

How much does Factory Droid cost?

Pro is $20/mo, Plus $100/mo and Max $200/mo for individuals. Teams is $60/mo per team plus $40/mo per seat, for up to 10 seats. Business and Enterprise have no listed price.

What is the difference between Pro, Plus and Max?

All three include the desktop app, CLI and SDK. Plus gives about 5x the usage of Pro and, per the pricing page, Droid Computers (Factory-managed cloud computers for remote Droids). Max gives about 10x the usage of Pro and early access to new features. Factory doesn't publish fixed message or token counts.

Can I use my own API keys with Droid?

Yes. Factory's docs say bring-your-own-key (BYOK) is free up to an allowance on all individual plans; after that, usage is charged according to your plan.

What happens when I hit the Droid usage limit?

Individual plans use three rolling limits (5-hour, 7-day and 30-day). After Standard Usage runs out you can switch to Droid Core models, which have separate limits, or turn on Extra Usage: prepaid credits with a $10 minimum that don't expire. Missions pause when they hit a limit and require Extra Usage to be enabled.

What is new in Droid 1.0?

Factory announced Droid 1.0 on Oct 29, 2026. The main change is programmatic tool calling: the model writes a script that runs many tool calls in one request, which Factory says cuts cost by 15% on Claude Opus 5.5. Droid 1.0 ships as a desktop app for macOS and Windows, a terminal interface and a TypeScript SDK.
