Why choose it

Biggest strength
Builders reach for it on longer, autonomous tasks they can step away from, while keeping an editor for quick edits.12

When not to choose it

Biggest drawback
No free plan, and it shares one usage pool (5-hour and weekly limits) with the rest of your Claude plan (official pricing FAQ).

Verdict: Choose Claude Code if you're a developer who wants an agent to work across your codebase: it reads your repo, edits files, runs commands and opens pull requests, in the terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, a desktop app or the browser (official docs). It's included in Claude Pro ($17/mo billed annually, $20 monthly) and Max (from $100/mo); there's no free plan, and your coding and chat share the same usage limits. Builders in our sources use Cursor for in-editor flow and Claude Code for longer autonomous jobs, and many run both, since Claude Code installs in Cursor.123
