Windsurf pricing (now Devin Desktop)
Last checked Nov 2, 2026In short: Windsurf is free to start. Pro is $20 a month, Max is $200 a month, and Teams costs at least $80 a month with full developer seats at $40 each. Enterprise is custom. Every plan includes a daily and weekly usage quota instead of credits, and paid plans can buy extra usage at API list prices. Windsurf was renamed Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026, so its prices now sit on devin.ai/pricing. [1][5]
All prices and limits come from Cognition's official pricing page, Devin docs and Cognition's pricing announcement, checked 2026-11-02. Prices are in USD and can change. Review status: Community-verified (cited builder feedback, not our own hands-on test). No affiliate links on this page.
Windsurf plans and prices
| Plan | Price | Usage | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Light daily and weekly quota for agent work; wait for the reset when it runs out | Limited model availability, unlimited inline edits, unlimited Tab completions |
| Pro | $20/mo | Larger daily and weekly quota; buy extra usage at API pricing | Frontier models from OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and SpaceXAI plus open-source models, full model availability, free use of SWE-2, cloud agents (Devin Cloud). One user only. |
| Max | $200/mo | "Significantly higher" weekly quota, no daily cap | Everything in Pro. One user only. |
| Teams | $80/mo minimum; full seats $40/mo each | Each full seat gets a Pro-sized quota; free flex seats draw on shared on-demand credits | Up to 200 users, centralized billing, admin dashboard with analytics, priority support. Flex seats don't include Devin Desktop. |
| Enterprise | Custom | Set by contract | SAML/OIDC SSO, central admin controls, dedicated deployment option, dedicated account management |
Cognition doesn't publish the size of any quota in tokens or messages. The pricing page only says Pro has "increased quotas" and Max "significantly higher quotas." [1][2]
How the Teams price works
The pricing page lists Teams as "$80/month for team plan + $40/mo per full dev seat." Devin's billing docs explain that the $80 is a monthly minimum, and full seats count toward it: [1][2]
| Full seats | Monthly total | Included on-demand credits |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | $80 | $80 |
| 1 | $80 | $40 |
| 2 | $80 | $0 |
| 3 | $120 | $0 |
| N (2 or more) | N × $40 | $0 |
Flex seats are free, but they only use the team's shared credits and don't get Devin Desktop. Give a full seat to anyone who codes in the editor every day. [2]
How Windsurf quotas work
- No more credits: since March 2026, every plan includes a usage allowance that refreshes daily and weekly, based on the calendar date. Your daily quota is more than 1/7 of the weekly one, so weekend work doesn't cost you capacity. [3]
- Measured in tokens: each request uses budget based on how many tokens the model uses, and the price per token depends on the model. Short requests with a few files in context use less than long sessions on big codebases. Free models don't count against the quota. [3]
- Max is weekly only: Max has a weekly allowance and no daily cap. [2]
- Extra usage: on Pro, Max and Teams you can keep going past the quota. Extra usage is billed at the model's API list price, and priority or fast variants cost more. Prepaid on-demand credits roll over and never expire. [3][2]
- ChatGPT plans: with an eligible ChatGPT Go, Plus or Pro subscription, you can pay for GPT model usage through ChatGPT so it doesn't count against your Devin allowance. [2]
How many messages do you get?
When it launched quotas in March 2026, Cognition published daily estimates. They depend on the model and task, and a weekly limit applies on top: [4]
| Model tier (Cognition's March 2026 examples) | Pro and Teams | Max |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Plus (Opus 4.6, GPT-5.4, GPT-5.3-Codex) | 7-27 messages/day | 42-170 messages/day |
| Premium (e.g. Sonnet 4.6, GPT-5.2, Gemini Pro) | 8-101 messages/day | 47-631 messages/day |
| Lightweight (e.g. Haiku, Flash) | 47-190 messages/day | 291-1,190 messages/day |
These are Cognition's own estimates from March 18, 2026, based on usage patterns then, and they name the models available at the time. Treat them as a rough guide, not a guarantee. [4]
Price changes and the Devin Desktop rename
- March 19, 2026: credits were replaced by quotas, the $200 Max plan was added and Pro moved to $20. Existing Pro subscribers paying $15 a month and Teams subscribers paying $30 per seat keep those prices indefinitely. [4][3]
- June 2, 2026: Windsurf became Devin Desktop. Cognition says it is the same IDE, and plans and pricing didn't change. On the Teams plan, Devin Desktop comes with a full seat. [5]
- Now: the Teams entry on the pricing page reads "$80/month for team plan + $40/mo per full dev seat," while the March post listed Teams at $40 per seat. Check the current pricing page before you buy for a team. [1][4]
Windsurf vs Cursor and Claude Code on price
Cursor's cheapest paid plan, Plus, is $8 a month but only includes Grok models. Other models need Premium at $30 a month and are billed at API list price (Cursor pricing). Claude Code comes with Claude Pro at $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually (Claude Code pricing). Windsurf Pro is $20 a month with OpenAI, Claude and Gemini models inside its quota. Is the free plan enough?
For trying the editor, probably. Free includes unlimited Tab completions and inline edits, and only agent work uses the light quota. [1] We haven't tested Windsurf hands-on. Builders in the threads we cite praised its agent for hands-off multi-file work, but that was the Cascade agent, which Cognition has since replaced with Devin Local. Windsurf pricing FAQ
How much is Windsurf per month?
Windsurf, now called Devin Desktop, has a Free plan, Pro at $20 a month and Max at $200 a month. Teams costs at least $80 a month, with full developer seats at $40 each. Enterprise is custom. Paid plans can buy extra usage at API list prices once the included quota runs out.
Is Windsurf free?
Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and includes a light quota for coding with agents, limited model availability, and unlimited Tab completions and inline edits. When the free quota runs out you wait for the next daily or weekly reset; Free can't buy extra usage.
Is Windsurf the same as Devin Desktop?
Yes. Cognition renamed Windsurf to Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026. It is the same IDE, and Cognition says plans and pricing did not change with the rename. Pricing now lives at devin.ai/pricing.
Does Windsurf still use credits?
No, not on current self-serve plans. In March 2026 Windsurf replaced prompt credits with a daily and weekly usage quota measured in tokens. Leftover add-on credits were converted into extra-usage balance at the rate people paid for them.
What happens when I hit the Windsurf limit?
On Free you wait for the next daily or weekly reset. On Pro, Max or Teams you can buy extra usage, billed at the API list price of the model you use. Models marked free don't count against the quota at all.
I pay $15 a month for Windsurf Pro. Will that go up?
Not according to Cognition. Pro subscribers who were paying $15 a month before the March 2026 change keep that price indefinitely, and Teams subscribers keep $30 per developer seat. They moved to the new quota system at their old price.
Is Windsurf cheaper than Cursor or Claude Code?
The entry prices differ less than they look. Cursor Plus is $8 a month but only includes Grok models; other models need Premium at $30 a month and are billed at API list price. Claude Code comes with Claude Pro at $20 a month ($17 billed annually). Windsurf Pro is $20 a month with OpenAI, Claude and Gemini models inside its quota.
